Job purpose
We are looking for an Azure Data Architect, Principal Consultant to join our growing team.
The ideal candidate has experience of building data pipelines, data modelling, working with Azure data services including Machine Learning and AI principles. You enjoy optimising data systems and building them from the ground up. The Architect will support the team on data initiatives and will ensure optimal data delivery architecture is consistent throughout ongoing projects. They must be comfortable supporting the data needs of multiple teams, systems and products.
You will need to create complex high-quality solutions that make meaningful impact. You’ll be responsible for overall leadership and delivery of the solutions from requirement gathering through implementation. You’ll use your in-depth knowledge of leading-edge products and technologies along with industry and business skills to influence outcomes.

As part of our growing Data and Insights practice, we will be delivering interesting, challenging and diverse Data and Business intelligence projects for our clients using the Microsoft Azure data platform tool sets, including Azure Machine learning, cognitive services and utilising the full suite of applications and functionality within the Power Platform.
Be part of the technical authority in Azure Data & AI technologies, predominantly focused on Azure Data, AI & Governance solutions.
To convert business requirements into an architecture and design that will become the blueprint for the customer’s solution.
Implement designed solutions for our clients.
Engage and support Xpedition wider sales and initiatives to further promote and grow Data & Insight solutions.
To support sales team in identifying, scoping, and creating solution proposals for our clients.
To support project management and key stakeholders around the successful execution of design, development, and deployment tasks on project engagements
Help set and manage clients’ expectations to ensure that all customers are delighted with Xpedition’s Data & Insights projects.
Keep technical skills and industry knowledge up to date with the latest developments and customer trends.
Act as a mentor/coach to help and grow others within Xpedition
Be a recognized leader Azure Data & AI technologies
Implement and support Azure Data & AI solutions.
Provide innovative solutions for complex implementations · Deliver presentations and tech-talks to both internal teams and external customers
Contribute to strategic planning for at both project & market level · Write technical responses to RFPs & RFIs
Assist in running technology-based training for project, accounts teams
Always represent Xpedition in a professional and positive manner.
5+ years’ experience in a Data Architect role
Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Azure and SQL
Certified Azure Solutions Architect
Experience using Azure DevOps
Advanced working knowledge of SQL and experience of relational databases, query authoring (SQL) as well as working familiarity with a variety of databases.
Considerable professional services / consulting experience
Presale’s consulting expertise
Strong knowledge in Azure Data & AI technologies, including Synapse, DataBricks, Azure SQL, Data Lake, Machine Learning, Power BI, Cosmos DB and Microsoft Purview
Able to create large/complex solutions and delivery models and translating those into Statements of Work.
Building and optimising data pipelines, architectures and data sets.
Performing root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes to answer specific business questions and identify opportunities for improvement
Strong analytic skills related to working with unstructured datasets
Build processes supporting data transformation, data structures, metadata, dependency and workload management
Manipulating, processing and extracting value from large, disconnected datasets
Strong project management, planning and organisational skills
Supporting and working with cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment
Use of Logic Apps
Big data tools: Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, etc.
Relational SQL and NoSQL databases
Object-oriented/object function scripting languages: Python
The ability to build trust with clients, assimilate their business pain points, understand the drivers and strategy of the business, and turn these into a compelling solution.
A good understanding and experience of our clients’ markets and challenges
Ability to work on own initiative and within a team environment
Excellent oral and written communication skills and articulate and clear in presentations to mixed audiences and one to one
Desire to develop your own projects and take ownership
Account management and solution selling and the ability to engage effectively with and influence decision makers and executives.
Microsoft Dynamics experience is an advantage
Ability to remain calm and adaptable under pressure and manage workload and time in a fast paced, quick changing environment
Comfortable with the consulting lifestyle, willing to travel to clients, the office, able to work extended hours on occasion and to spend nights away from home (some international travel may be required).
Candidates will hold a United Kingdom driving licence
